Food Pyramid?
I’ve tried eating according to the food pyramid guidelines. But it seems like so much food each day I feel absolutely stuffed by the end of it. What would you recommend I do?
taster answers:
You don’t need to eat more food than you are comfortable eating; in fact, many food experts think it is better to under eat (for long life, at least). The pyramid is meant to be a guide to the types of food that are good for you, that provide good nutrition. One of the main rules is to eat a variety of foods, such as different coloured fruits and vegetables for vitamins, starch for enough calories to get through the day, and protein for cellular repair. Whichever pyramid you are using (there are several, and many are very good; they tend to change by what is on nutritionists’ minds in a given decade), it is designed to allow you to balance your intake in a way that’s right for you and your age and activity level. Ideally, you would just eat a scoop less of mashed potatoes, one less carrot, one piece of chicken instead of two, cutting out from each category rather than cutting out whole categories–unless of course it’s fried foods or ice cream, which some of us could stand to eat less of–I’m not mentioning any names here, but I might be one.

Almost. The food pyramid is a pyramid which shows what food goes into which category, and the healthy food pyramid also shows servings and only healthy food in each category.

John asks…
How can you eat accordingly to the food pyramid without getting fat?
Okay so the food pyramid with the 6 food groups are suppose to keep you eating healthy. But they tell you to eat 6-11 servings of grain, 3-5 servings of veggies, 2-4 servings of fruit, 2-3 servings of dairy, 2-3 servings of meat and things with protein and keep sweets to a minimum.
How is eating all this food in one day suppose to keep you healthy but thin?
taster answers:
I think the food pyramid is out dated. Its different for everyone. It depends on your height, weight, and activity. If your a kid or teenager, and your active you might need more carbohydrates, and certain food groups because your active and still growing. It also depends mainly on your metabolism. Some people need more servings of grain then others, to keep them going. For example, i eat A LOT of good carbs, and i am on the thin side. They are right however, it is important to exercise atleast 30 minutes a day.

Was the food pyramid a chart made to help out the farmers?
I want real evidence. Saying yes or no because you think the government is good or evil doesnt cut it. Anyone have articles on this is what i really want. We’ve always accepted the food pyramid but has anyone ever asked why? Any evidence why the food pyramid is a good way to eat? Thanks
