Richard asks…
Name of NYC restaurant serving food that tastes different than it looks? (ie. burger tastes like cupcakes)?
The example is lame but the gist is a food item that you normally identify with (ie. burger, pizza, fish, eggs) but the taste is the complete opposite. I remember reading an article on the place in NY Times a while ago but cannot remember the name of the place. I also believe the food was higher quality than burgers and pizza so don’t let that put you off. Any ideas?? Thanks for the help!

Sorry! I’m new to this.. Anyways, “Ferrera’s” is where? If you mean the Italian bakery, that’s not the place I had in mind. Thank you.

For anybody who has been to Pure Food and Wine in NYC…?
I have a few questions:
-I’m going Friday at 9:30 pm(ish)- should I make reservations?
-Is their bar like raw alcohol or is their bar for people who aren’t raw and are just tasting the food? (like do they serve real wines, etc)
-Are they a fully vegan restaurant?
-If you’ve been to Quintessence, which one is healthier?
they have a bar there right?
is the wine like things you find in a supermarket, or they things that are raw?
taster answers:
I love that place! I live in an apartment in NYC, so I should know. Anyways:
-Yes, make reservations
-I don’t know what you mean by the second question
-They are a fully vegan restaurant

John asks…
Have you ever eaten at a place called Dosanko in NYC?
It is my understanding they closed all their restaurants. Does anyone know of a place that makes similar tasting food? I usually ate duplings, soba noodles, and fried chicken in a basket.
taster answers:
Wow…Dosanko! My mother used to wait tables on the one on 49th Street about 30 years ago!
Didn’t know they all closed.
You should be able to get similar foods at another ramen noodle shop.
You can try a couple places there’s:
Momofuku Noodle Bar http://www.momofuku.com/
Minca Ramen Factory
Rai rai Ken
Men Kui Tei

Lisa asks…
Why did my Burger King food taste odd?
My friend and I ate (and almost got sick) after a trip to Burger King in NYC. We had french toast sticks, hash browns, and cheesy tots.
We noticed that all of the items-especially the potato items-had a weird metallic after taste. I described it as the taste of earwax-especially at the back of the tongue.
We figured it could have something to do with the frying oil, but we’re not sure. I’ve noticed the same thing if I get french fries at our local burger king too late in the day.
taster answers:
Cuz it was from burger king

Steven asks…
Compared to California and Texas: How do burgers taste like in NYC?
Are burgers in NYC tasty? Which food chains make the best burgers in New York?
What about the pizzas in NYC?
taster answers:
NYC’s burgers are good, but you’re not going to get anything as good as an In-and-Out burger or Monster fries here or anything of the sort. New York style Pizza is good, but it’s a matter of preference. New York style pizza is a thin crust very large sliced style. Try City Pie on 72nd street for a great NY style pizza. Their stromboli are to die for.
