Food stamps?
I live in CA and whenever I go to a grocery store I see people using this EBT Card (food stamps are like plastic now) to buy beer . And I know that in CA this card can have a cash value and also food value. So they use the cash value in buying beer. That is not fair to people who really are way below the income limit amd are struggling but were denied food stamps. So anyone has comments on this?

People who also get cash checks like TEA (AFDC) can choose to have that money put on the card..then they don’t have to worry about the checks getting lost, etc. You can NOT buy beer with food stamps..However, they can use the cash option to buy beer. It stinks. I know. I just moved in with my mom to save money and they cut my food stamps $20 a month (I am paying more rent here). I now get $15 a month..I am on SSI/SS disability.. It’s not fair. Politicians really don’t care because they don’t have to live on “assistance”. Wish I had the answer.

I’ve applied for food stamps for someone else. I know that one of my friends said that she had to fax alot of stuff to the department before she got her food stamps. Do you have any idea of what might need to be faxed so that I can tell my friend what he needs to have on hand?

Income proof such as pay check stubs from the prior month or any other income received like child support from every working adult in the home ( income limit depends on what state you live in and how many people are in your household) If self employed then they may want proof from the last two months and also expenses incurred from self employment; bills you are responsible for such as mortgage or rent, power, water, telephone, medical expenses child support paid , child care expenses etc…. From the month prior; also social security cards for everyone who lives in the home. If he doesn’t have everything the social worker will let him know what else needs to be turned in; also banking information such as checking or savings account and any stock, annuities and life insurance policies ; vehicle information; it’s nice to see that there are people like you who are willing to help others…give yourself a pat on the back! To the guy below me: you do not have to be a minority to receive assistance but it helps if you have children, also you said you wouldn’t fill out the paper work because it was a stack of them? You should at least try to fill those papers out and a social worker will help you obtain all necessary info if needed. Times are tough right now with gas and food prices….I don’t want to see anyone go hungry. I respect and appreciate all those who have served our country and I agree vets get a raw deal.

When you have a food stamps card do you have to buy only food items, or can you buy other things like toothpaste, shampoo, etc.?

if you need the necessities like beer and cigs and lottery tickets, then you have to sell the food stamps for like half price

If i live with my husband and i am obtaining food stamps why is it that he has to be on child support?
He is the only one working. I am a stay at home mom. He doesn’t make enough for all of us. I have a newborn and dont/ cant afford the day care rate! Why do u have to put a good hard working man on food stmaps? This seriously makes no sense to me
When i say child support, I mean the state is asking that he pay ME!!! Child support in order to recieve food stamps? Which is crazy!!!!!

I never heard of married couples having to pay each other.but for him to pay you cs and the child is his that makes no sense.are you sure you are telling what happened correctly?how are you a stay at home mom if you cannot afford food?you need to go to work for two jobs if day care cost that much.there are day cares that are 24-7 that will work with your schedule.i thought usually families that have sahm’s are the ones who can afford everything with no government help?maybe my Definition of a sahm is different from what most people think.i am a sahm and we have no government benefits,but it is because we can afford it too.we are not rich,ut the sahm thing is something that families do when they can take care of everyone on one income i thought.

My friend recently purchased a expensive steak cut with food stamps. His father is a multi-millionaire, so he does not need the money. But, he can get food stamps every month because he does not have a job. How can I get food stamps??
His father did not apply. He applied himself. His father could never qualify.
He does support his son. He is a spoiled child I must say.
